Marine life found in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. Guernsey is the second largest island in the Channel Islands located between England and France. The gallery begins with general views of the bay followed by major groups of animals including sponges, cnidarians, worms, crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms, ascidians, fishes and ending with some algae.

Shanny eggs, Lipophrys pholis, attached to the wall of a crevice in Belle Greve Bay

I took this image pointing the flash and lens of a compact Olympus digital camera down a crevice in bedrock in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. I had seen a shanny, Lipophrys pholis, occuping the dry crevice, waiting for the tide to return. The fish (in the blenny family) had slipped down the crevice when I approached. When I downloaded the digital image to a computer I noticed the sheet of yellow eggs adhering to the top of the crevice. Photographed in Belle Greve Bay on 21 April 2003.

Many marine biologists have helped identify or confirm the identity of marine species photographed. These people have been mentioned when possible.
