Marine life found in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. Guernsey is the second largest island in the Channel Islands located between England and France. The gallery begins with general views of the bay followed by major groups of animals including sponges, cnidarians, worms, crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms, ascidians, fishes and ending with some algae.

Possibly the orange sponge, Haliclona simulans, growing on the side of a gully at extreme low water in Belle Greve Bay

I believe the orange sponge in the centre of the image is Haliclona simulans. A painted top shell, Calliostoma zizyphinum, sits on the sponge (below the first 'O' in the watermark word "photography".

It grows on the south wall (shaded) of a gully near the Quaine rock pole in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast.

It was photographed with a Canon S80 compact digital camera at extreme low water during the big equinoctial low tide on 21 March 2007.

Sealord photography's biodiversity images began with a focus on international commercial seafood species and the marine life of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, Great Britain.

Sealord photography has a growing collection of digital images covering climate change, the environment and sustainability issues.

Sealord photography also covers the Guernsey community and particularly the fund raising activities of Guernsey charities as part of the island's social sustainability.

The fish, shellfish and marine life images would not be possible if it were not for the generosity of commercial and recreational fishermen in Guernsey, and seafood suppliers at various trade shows in the USA, and wholesalers at Fulton Fish Market in New York City.

Many marine biologists have helped identify or confirm the identity of marine species photographed. These people have been mentioned when possible.
