Poplar hawkmoth, Laothoe populi
This is the third poplar hawkmoth, Laothoe populi, this year to enter the moth trap set in my garden in St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands,
The moth trap was set on the 4 July and emptied the following morning.
This poplar hawkmoth was transferred from the moth trap to the trunk of a tree where it stayed all day before flying off at dusk.
The wind grew increasingly strong during the course of the day but the poplar hawkmoth stayed in position although its wings were pushed frequently over its abdomen by the force of the wind.
