These bright red alfonsino, Beryx splendens, were on display at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan on 1 December 1988.  To make them more enticing the seller had lined the Styrofoam box they were lying in with a red polyethylene sheet to make the ice appear red and make the fish look more red than they already are.  Red is an auspicious colour in Japan
