This live fan mussel or pen shell, Atrina fragilis, was accidentally trawled up from the bottom near Hanois lighthouse on Guernsey's south-west coast on February 18, 1998. It was caught about six miles to the west of Hanois Lighthouse, south-west coast of Guernsey (about 49 degrees 26 minutes and 2 degrees 51.30 minutes west).  The fan mussel weighed 85 grams.  It had a total length of 19.0 cm and a maximum valve width of 8.06 cm.  The maximum thickness of the two valves of the live animal was 30.85 mm.
