A fish display in a street market in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. The Sicilian fish markets provide an excellent quality and variety of fish and seafood.

The orange - red fish in the foreground is a red scorpionfish, Scorpaena scrofa. The smaller orange fish behind are blue mouth, Helicolenus dactylopterus. Both the red scorpionfish and the blue mouth belong to the family scorpaenidae. Behind the blue mouth are bogues, Boops boops, which belong to the bream family. Bogues are common around Sicily and Malta. To the right partially hidden by a lettuce leaf (with a spotted body) is a greater weever, Trachinus draco. To the right of the weever there are two john dory, Zeus faber. There are three bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, clearly visible on the display. On the left there are some long-finned squid, Loligo vulgaris, and above them in the top left-hand corner there are some gilthead bream, Sparus auratus.
