This jewfish, Epinephelus itajara, which is now known as goliath grouper because of its potentially enormous size was photographed in October 1991.  It was imported into Fulton Fish Market in New York City from Latin America.  It is the largest grouper in the western Atlantic.  It is vulnerable to overfishing and has been afforded protection in US waters since 1990 and in the Caribbean since 1993.

This snowy grouper, Epinephelus niveatus, sold at Fulton Fish Market in New York City on 6 August 1992.  It was delivered into New York from North Carolina.  It had a gutted weight of 4622 grams.
