A box of striped beak-perch, ishidai, Oplegnathus fasciatus, on display at a middleman's stand in the Great Tsukiji wholesale fish market in Tokyo, Japan. Ishidai are very good food fish and they are popular with anglers too. Besides the wild catch they are also farm raised. Their strong coalesced teeth are ideal for cracking open the shells of barnacles and gastropods. Photographed in December 1988.
