'Insect hotels' are easy to make for pollinators, and other beneficial insects that might prey on pest species. Either drill holes in the ends of logs or cut some bamboo sticks of equal length, and stack them in a open-ended wooden box that can be hung up or sat down in a sheltered location in your garden. Some insects will hibernate in these refuges and come out in the spring to pollinate trees and food crops. Ladybirds and their larvae consume sap-sucking aphids. Adult ladybirds need to hibernate over winter in piles of dry twigs and leaves, which you can provide in your insect hotel.
