sealord > This jewfish, Epinephelus itajara, which is now known as goliath grouper because of its potentially enormous size was photographed in October 1991.  It was imported into Fulton Fish Market in New York City from Latin America.  It is the largest grouper in the western Atlantic.  It is vulnerable to overfishing and has been afforded protection in US waters since 1990 and in the Caribbean since 1993.

sealord > The Brazilian tilefish, Lopholatilus villarii, imported into the USA and sold at Fulton Fish Market in New York City in 1994.  This species differs fom the commercial important tilefish off the eastern seaboard of the USA because it lacks the long adipose fin on the top of the head of the US tilefish, Lopholatilus chamaeleonticeps.  Tilefish is a deepwater fish living close to the bottom on the continental slope.  It has white muscle which has a mild taste.
