sealord > This image was taken about 15 minutes after high water as a wave breaks against the granite wall protecting the coast road from Havelet Bay. Several waves did crash over the wall and seawater flowed to the opposite side of the road but the road remained open. High tide was forecast for 0815 at 9.8 metres but due to a low barometric pressure of 973 mb Hg the tide rose to a height of 10.7 metres according to Captain Peter Gill, St. Peter Port's harbour master. The wind was blowing from the south-west so the east coast was protected from the worst weather. Captain Peter Gill informed me that in 1948 the tide reached a height of 11.3 metres in St. Peter Port when the wind blew from the south-east. sealord > This image shows the eggs of the red ribbon worm, Lineus ruber, in a gelatinous tube. The tube was attached to the base of a boulder located near the top of the shore in Havelet Bay on the southern edge of St. Peter Port on Guernsey's east coast. Individual sand grains can be seen to the right of the eggs. The horizontal field of view is about 13 mm. The reddish pink bivalve clam on the right could be Lasaea rubra.
