sealord > Rubbish collected from the pebble beach by the bathing pools at La Valette on Guernsey's east coast on Sunday night, June 10, 2007, after a hot day on the shore. The rubbish included empty crisp bags, empty cans of soda, a plastic Ribena bottle, plastic bags, plastic bottle tops, a broken styrofoam box, a hair brush, sweet wrappers, a plastic lid to a styrofoam cup, pieces of a styrofoam cup, and pieces of aluminium can. The majority of litter had been deposited in a green garbage bin at the top of the beach but this rubbish was left on the small beach. Under the pebbles I found small thimble-sized plastic caps to water and soda bottles. The litter also included a rather nice hair brush, which I disposed of. Last week the pebble beach litter included a baby's dummy (pacifier).

sealord > This is a view of the south side of the peninsula of raised rock looking east towards the Quaine pole in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. This image shows the shore at low water during the afternoon spring tide of the 17 April 2007. The Laminaria ochroleuca kelps have been exposed. Thongweed, Himanthalia elongata, and red algae drape over bedrock and boulders. Patches of green Enteromorpha seaweed cover the ground. At the top of the image, in the middle, there is an outcrop of rock with an opening to a small cave in the centre which is where European sting winkles, Ocenebra erinacea, produced egg capsules during the spring tides of 17 and 18 April 2007. The yellow jacket of an ormer gatherer can be seen in the upper left-hand corner of the image.

sealord > This is a view taken on the 2 April 2007 of what I am calling crater pool (because of the high sides) in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. The image looks towards the north. If you compare this image with a previous image of this pool taken on 4th February 2007 you will see the amount of growth that has taken place of the invasive brown seaweed, Sargassum muticum.

This is a small pool where I found two furrowed crabs, Xantho incisus; two candy striped flatworms, and three long-spined sea scorpions (sculpin family). Long-spined sea scorpion eggs were deposited under a tuft of the red algae, Corallina officinalis, on the left-hand pointed corner of the flat-topped rock under 'tog' of 'phoTOGgraphy in the Sealord watermark.
