sealord > This very large spiny starfish, Marthasterias glacialis, was seen by an ormer (abalone) gatherer on the shore in Belle Greve Bay. This species grows to an arm span of over two feet. It preys on other starfish species and the ormer, Haliotis tuberculata. Photographed on 12 January 2005 crawling over the bottom of a shallow pool. sealord > This sea potato, Echinocardium cordatum, was accidentally unearthed by recreational bait digger Sam Robbins who was looking for worms and razor clams in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. This sea potato was found quite close to a patch of eel grass, which they are sometimes associated with. The echinoderm was quick to rebury itself in the sand.
