sealord > This isopod which may be in the genus Serolis was spotted by commercial crab fisherman Clive Brown at the bottom of his bait box while potting for Cancer pagurus off the south coast of Guernsey, Great Britain. Clive has been using whole frozen Patagonian rosefish, Sebastes oculatus, from Argentina to bait his crab pots. He believes this isopod was probably in the box with the imported fish which are in the family scorpaenidae. The box of frozen fish had been imported to Europe via Vigo, Spain and then shipped to France before arriving by boat into Guernsey. The isopod is about 2 cm in diameter.

This image was taken over a lightbox. I lined an empty transparent plastic ice cream container with white paper to act as a reflector and then I cut a hole in the bottom of the ice cream container for the camera lens. I placed the isopod in a petri dish with seawater, placed the ice cream container over the petri dish and photographed the animal from a distance of about 5 cm.
