knot moth caterpillar, Acronicta rumicis, on plantain leaf
On a particular windy 5 October 2008 I went with my wife to look for mushrooms.
We went to Jerbourg on Guernsey's south-east coast and I investigated a grassy area off the road.
The grassy area was bordered by a raised bed of vegetation.
Almost immediately this brightly coloured knot grass moth, Acronicta rumicis, came to my wife's attention.
It was crawling on plantain. I found two more individuals close-by.
This caterpillar was identified by Jamie Hooper of Guernsey Environmental Services Ltd., a wholly owned environmental consultancy and environmental management company of La Société Guernesiaise.
