Marine species photographed in the Ramsar Site surrounding Lihou Island off Guernsey's west coast. Most images were taken in tide-pools either side of the causeway linking Lihou Island to Guernsey at low water.

The hairy crab, Pilumnus hirtellus, with its two dissimilar sized claws (chela) is common under boulders and cobbles on the Guernsey seashore. This one is living south of the Lihou Island causeway off the west coast of Guernsey.

The cushion starfish or sea star, Asterina gibbosa, is common on the rocky shores of Guernsey. This one was under a boulder to the south of the Lihou Island causeway off the west coast of Guernsey.

A 6 cm long sea lemon, Archidoris pseudoargus, photographed on 1 April 2006 slithering over the bottom of a shallow pool to the south of the Lihou Island causeway off Guernsey's west coast.

The edible crab, Cancer pagurus, supports one of Guernsey's most important fisheries. Juvenile edible or brown crabs live on the seashore under stones all around the Bailiwick.  They leave the seashore when they reach a carapace width of about 9 to 12 cm.  They can be harvested from Guernsey waters when they have a carapace width that exceeds 14 cm.  This one lives / lived south of the Lihou Island causeway off the west coast of Guernsey.
