I visited the fish quay pontoons in St. Peter Port harbour on the 18th September and found three large Janolus cristatus nudibranchs but I didn't photograph them. On the 21 September I revisited the pontoons and saw this tiny Janolus cristatus individual that probably wasn't much more than 10 mm long. Janolus cristatus feed on bryozoan colonies and particularly the erect Bugula colonies. They also lay their strings of pearl-like egg cases on their food.

On the morning of 9 March 2007 during a period of ten to fifteen minutes I found eight Facelina auriculata nudibranchs on the north side of a pontoon that is next to the concrete fish quay in St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey. The nudibranchs (sea slugs) were identified by Dr. Bernard Picton who is with the Sciences Division of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Northern Ireland.

This nudibranch, Facelina auriculata, was photographed on the side of a pontoon attached to the fish quay in St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey with a Canon S80 digital camera and underwater housing on the 9 March 2007.

In ten to fifteen minutes I found eight Facelina auriculata sea slugs on the north side of a pontoon next to the concrete fish quay in St. Peter Port harbour. This nudibranch was identified by Dr. Bernard Picton who is with the Sciences Division at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum. The sea slug is thin-bodied. It possesses a long thin tail. The cerata along the dorsal surface are grouped in bunches.

I found also at the same time one coil of white eggs attached to Laminaria seaweed growing from the pontoon.

The sea temperature in St. Peter Port harbour during the last week has been about 10.5 degrees Celsius.

Photographed with a Canon S80 compact digital camera in an underwater housing at 1140 on the 9 March 2007.

Since first discovering the invasive bryozoan, Watersipora subtorquata, in St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey in June 2007 the colonies have multiplied and spread remarkably rapidly. A punctured blue plastic bucket was bobbing up and down next to one of the fish quay pontoons. One side of the bucket had a sheet of Watersipora sp. covering an area of about 15 by 20 cm. The living part of the colony is orange. I believe the black portion of the colony represents the skeletons of dead zooids. Photographed on the 21 September 2007 with a Canon A640 digital camera in an underwater housing.

This view of the side of one of the pontoons attached to the fish quay in St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey shows on the left colonies of the pink soft coral, Alcyonium hibernicum, and on the right a dahlia anemone, Urticina felina. In the centre of the image ascidian siphons are covered by an orange bryozoan colony. Emeritus Professor of marine biology John Ryland from Swansea University, Wales has identified this bryozoan as belonging to the genus Watersipora. It is an invasive species that has not been recorded before in the British Isles. Photographed on the 21st September 2007.

This long bootlace ribbon worm, Lineus longissimus, was moving rapidly along the side of a pontoon attached to the fish quay in St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey when I spotted it. I was only able to see a small portion of its length but what I saw was several metres long. Photographed on the 21 September 2007.
