Marine life found in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. Guernsey is the second largest island in the Channel Islands located between England and France. The gallery begins with general views of the bay followed by major groups of animals including sponges, cnidarians, worms, crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms, ascidians, fishes and ending with some algae.

I collected some red seaweed, Calliblepharis jubata, from Belle Greve Bay on 15 February 2006.  I was arranging the seaweed on a tray of seawater when I noticed these two flatworms sliding over its surface.

A young bootlace worm, Lineus longissimus, travels over the surface of a rock hunting for food in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast.  Each dark spot on the side of the head is an eye.  Bootlace worms can have up to 40 eyes on each side of the head.  Photographed on 5 November 2006.

A young bootlace worm, Lineus longissimus, measuring about half a metre long, travels over a rock surface in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast.  This ribbon worm, phylum nemertea, can grow in excess of 30 metres long.  It possesses ten to forty dark eyes on each side of the head.

Wave and tidal action deposit the finest material in and around Salerie harbour at the southern corner of Belle Greve Bay.  Here lugworms cover the surface with their casts.

Guernsey recreational anglers use a fork to dig for this large polychaete worm in the family eunicidae.  Locally called Verm, Marphysa sanguinea, grows to a length of 60 cm.  It lives in muddy gravel which is a common substrate in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast.
