Marine life found in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast. Guernsey is the second largest island in the Channel Islands located between England and France. The gallery begins with general views of the bay followed by major groups of animals including sponges, cnidarians, worms, crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms, ascidians, fishes and ending with some algae.

sealord > This chocolate-brown male furrowed crab, Xantho incisus, has a carapace width of 56.2 mm.  It lives in a sandy bottomed tide pool which has a number of coralline algae covered boulders lying it.  I found two Xantho incisus crabs in this tide pool - this large male with heavy, brown-tipped claws and a smaller female with a carpace width of 42.6 mm.

The larger male has heavy claws and a carapace width of 56.2 mm. The smaller female has a carapace width of 42.6 mm. sealord > This image shows a juvenile xanthid crab which was living in a large tide pool in Belle Greve Bay.  This individual is the smallest xanthid crab I have seen with a carapace width of 21.4 mm.  I believe it is Xantho incisus which is chocolate brown as an adult with black tipped claws.
