This golden grey mullet, Lisa aurata, was caught by Andy Le Lerre off Guernsey's west coast on the 14th October 2007. The fish had a total length of 452 mm and a fork length of 413 mm. It weighed 782 grams. The golden grey mullet has thin-lips like the thin-lip mullet. It has a fairly long pectoral fin, which when folded forward reaches the eye. The scales on the top of the head reach only as far forward as the level of the rear nostril and the preorbital bone just below the front margin of the eye has a pointed rear margin unlike the preorbital bone in the thin-lip mullet, which has a rounded margin.

Thin-lip mullet, Liza ramada, landed by a Guernsey fisherman. The black axial spot at the anterior end of the pectoral fin is clearly visible. This black spot helps distinguish this species from the golden grey mullet, which also has thin lips. The golden grey mullet can sometimes be distinguished from the thin-lip mullet by the golden blotch on the top half of the gill cover, although this blotch fades after death.

The thin-lip mullet is the least common of the three main species of grey mullet in Bailiwick of Guernsey waters. The thick-lip mullet and the golden grey mullet are more abundant.
